IGFA World Record

In May 2014, Jack fished with Captain Mitch Lattoff aboard the Salty Dog on a night fishing trip out of Kona. At 15, Jack had less than a year left to attempt to get an IGFA Junior World Record, so the boys set out prepared to have Jack fight whatever they hooked up to under IGFA rules. The goal was to catch a swordfish. Apparently, the swordfish weren't biting that night, but about 4:30 a.m., the line started screaming off the reel, and Jack grabbed the rod and got in the chair. 2 hours later, the team boated a huge thresher shark and headed for Honokohau Harbor. The fish weighed in at a whopping 547 pounds, the new IGFA junior world record for thresher shark.
